The Spotlight is on REC for Excellence

REC recently earned three awards for communication excellence from the Council of Rural Electric Communicators and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) through the “Spotlight on Excellence” national awards program. NRECA honored award recipients during a special luncheon at their annual Connect Conference held in New Orleans, La.
“When developing communications materials we put ourselves in our members' shoes to ensure the information we are delivering is important and effective for them,” said Ann M. Lewis, director of communications and public relations at REC. “We are very honored to be recognized for our communications. This is a significant accomplishment for us.”

The annual Spotlight awards competition recognizes the top-rated communication and marketing efforts by electric cooperatives and related organizations. Participants in the awards competition competed with electric cooperatives of similar sizes in 19 categories. Electric cooperative communicators and marketing professionals submitted more than 800 entries in the Spotlight on Excellence program, now in its 24th year. Faculty members from the University of Missouri – Columbia, University of South Carolina and the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill judged the entries.
REC provides electric service to over 155,000 connections in parts of 22 Virginia counties. With its general office in Fredericksburg, Va., Rappahannock maintains more than 16,000 miles of power lines through its service area, which ranges from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
