Youth Leadership Conference
Each spring REC sponsors six students to attend the Virginia Cooperative Council's (VCC) Youth Leadership Conference. Held at Graves Mountain Lodge in Madison County, this event offers students the opportunity to learn how cooperatives buy, sell, finance and distribute electricity and farm products. Students participate in activities that include seminars by representatives from Virginia's cooperatives, a student led computer simulation called, "Who's Minding the Store," quizzes about cooperatives and various fun and games.
To be eligible to attend the Youth Leadership Conference, an applicant must:
- be a high school student between the ages of 16 and 19 (as of July during the year of the conference).
- complete an application and letter of reference returned to REC by the application deadline.
Winners are selected based upon their scholastic achievements, community involvement, extracurricular activities, recommendations and completed nomination form.
VCC's 2010 Youth Leadership Conference will be held Friday, April 9 thru Sunday, April 11. Download a Youth Leadership Conference Nominnee Application now. Nominees applications are due by 5 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2010.
