Cooperative Warns of Remaining Storm-Related Hazards
Feb. 18, 2010
REC reminds its members and the general public that hazardous conditions may still exist along its power distribution system as a result of snowstorms that struck the area earlier this month. During the post storm clean up, it is possible that trees contacting power lines and remnants of wire and pieces of broken poles could be found among fallen trees and other debris in REC’s rights of way. Everyone should exercise caution in, and around, these areas and not try to remove hazards themselves. Please report the presence of any dangerous situation to the Cooperative by calling 1-800-552-3904.
With the extensive damage to REC's infrastructure caused by the recent record-breaking storms, restoring power will necessarily be followed by a cleanup effort that could last for the next several weeks. "REC’s top priority is the safety of our employees and our members, and that focus on safety continues while our crews clear storm-related debris," said Maxie Rozell, director of safety and security for REC.
REC is a member-owned cooperative providing service to more than 103,000 homes and businesses in portions of 16 counties. For more information please browse this Web site.
