Jan. 17, 2012
During times of economic need, food banks are a means of support for many families. This, combined with the cold winter months, result in an increased need for assistance, placing a strain on food bank resources. Recognizing this need, REC recently made a donation of $500 to the Fauquier Community Food Bank to further their mission of providing food to those needing aid in Fauquier.
“We are very, very thankful for this assistance provided by Rappahannock Electric Cooperative,” said Roland Serrano, director of food banks. “Community support is just what we need to succeed and this donation will help provide much needed support for our clients.”
REC lineman Tod Dodson believes giving back to the community is important, “During these tough times it’s important to help where we can. The guys I work with and I take great pride in working to keep the lights on for our members. Working together with agencies like the Fauquier Community Food Bank is another way we can support the communities we serve.”
REC provides electric service to over 155,000 connections in parts of 22 Virginia counties. With its general office in Fredericksburg, Va., Rappahannock maintains more than 16,000 miles of power lines through its service area, which ranges from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
