Cooperative Concludes Wind Storm Restoration Efforts

July 27, 2010

REC has restored electric service to all member-owners who lost power as a result of Sunday’s widespread, weather-related outages. With a look at the outage and restoration statistics, this microburst created winds of nearly 70 mph and caused power interruptions in the counties of Clarke, Frederick and Warren.

The storm affected approximately 8,400 customers beginning at 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. There were numerous reports of lines down, trees on lines and several broken poles. By 8 p.m. on Monday, power had been restored to all but 85 member-owners. This work consisted of over 35 different events. At 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday all storm-related work was completed and power re-established to all customers.

Much of the extra manpower deployed during the restoration was supplied by contract right-of-way and overhead crews from our Culpeper and Bowling Green offices.
