Funding From Operation Round Up® Available in August

Aug. 3, 2010

Does your non-profit charity or organization have a project that requires additional funding before you can start? Does your group offer support and services to those in need that is dependent on outside funding? If so, REC could have the solution to your group’s needs with applications for funding available through Operation Round Up (ORU) beginning Aug. 1.

At REC our goal is to provide all of our members with safe and reliable electric service. However, as an electric cooperative, we follow a set of seven guiding principles that includes caring for the communities we serve. That is why we offer our members the opportunity to give back to their communities by rounding up their electric bill through ORU.

As a result of members' donations to ORU, funds go to non-profit charities and organizations throughout the year. The purpose of ORU is to support school programs, philanthropic groups, non-profit organizations, rescue squads, fire departments and other deserving causes within REC's service area. A board of directors reviews applications for support and decides how donations are made. The board is made up of seven REC members, who volunteer their time.

Applications for funding are available online or in any of REC’s four offices located in Bowling Green, Culpeper, Fredericksburg and Front Royal. Any non-profit organization, school program, emergency services department or other group is encouraged to apply to request funds from ORU. All applications must be postmarked by Tuesday, Aug. 31.

If you are an REC member, we encourage you to enroll in the ORU program. Once you enroll, the extra change from your electric bill will be dedicated to charitable causes. For example, a bill amount of $65.48 would be rounded up by 52 cents for a total due of $66. The additional 52 cents would be your ORU donation for that month. Though a donation of less than a dollar may not sound like much, this small change, given on a regular basis, can amount to big support for our local communities and is an easy way to show you care.

Enroll online or call 800-552-3904 for more information. REC provides electric service to over 154,000 connections in parts of 22 Virginia counties. With its general office in Fredericksburg, Va., Rappahannock maintains more than 15,500 miles of power lines through its service area, which ranges from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
