REC Requests Voluntary Energy Reduction

REC is asking all members throughout the Cooperative's service area to voluntarily conserve electricity in their homes and facilities by turning off all non-essential appliances and machinery until further notice. REC is making this request due to extreme heat conditions resulting in an increased demand for electricity. REC will be controlling A/C and Water Heater Load Control switches longer than normal this afternoon and early evening.
You can assist us in reducing electricity demand by postponing usage of the following items:
• Unnecessary lights.
• Electronics.
• Electric range and/or oven.
• Washing machine and/or dryer.
• Dishwasher.
• Personal computers.
• Consider raising the thermostat setting on your air conditioner, unless use is medically necessary.
• Electrical machinery.
This is a time to keep an eye on the elderly, extremely young, and the ill to prevent heat exhaustion or stroke. REC provides electric service to over 155,000 connections in parts of 22 Virginia counties. With its general office in Fredericksburg, Va., Rappahannock maintains more than 16,000 miles of power lines through its service area, which ranges from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
