Electric Youth Tour Applications Available

Do you know a high school junior who would like the opportunity to spend a week in Washington, D.C.? If so, REC is now accepting applications from high school juniors to attend a once in a lifetime trip to the nation’s capital. REC will select seven students to attend the 2012 National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s (NRECA) Youth Tour June 17 - 21.
This experience teaches students to be aware of important issues and to become active citizens working to make a positive difference in their communities. Through their experience, students learn they truly have the “Power to Make a Difference.” Selected students interact with other students from around the country, meet their congressional representatives and tour historical and cultural sites.
Kori Price, a graduate of Eastern View High School in Culpeper County, and student at Virginia Tech said, “I enjoyed being in the Nation’s Capitol and having an experience that reinforced what I learned in school about our government. I also enjoyed meeting new people and creating lasting friendships.”
Eligible applicants must complete the required application process. Applications are available in area high school guidance departments, at any REC office or on the Community section of this website. Completed applications must be dropped off at one of REC's offices or postmarked by March 19, 2012. REC provides electric service to over 155,000 connections in parts of 22 Virginia counties. With its general office in Fredericksburg, Va., Rappahannock maintains more than 16,000 miles of power lines through its service area, which ranges from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
