REC Members Can Report Power Outages Online
April 30, 2014
When hazardous weather conditions strike causing power outages, members of REC can use smart phones or mobile devices to report their power outages online.
Members can visit REC's website and click the yellow Report Outage tab at the top of any webpage. By simply entering the phone number associated with their electric account and verifying their service address the power outage is reported in just a matter of minutes.
"Having a simple and convenient process for reporting power outages can make enduring an outage a little less stressful," said Matt Faulconer, REC's manager of external affairs. "With so many people using mobile technology to communicate, we want to make sure they can easily use that same technology to communicate with their Cooperative. Of course, we still welcome phone calls, especially if there is an eminent danger or the caller has information that will help speed the restoration process."
To help ensure that your online outage report is successful, REC encourages members to take a moment before a storm strikes to confirm that REC has your correct phone number on file. You can do that by registering in the My Account section and checking the accuracy of your phone number on the My Profile page. You may also call REC at 1-800-552-3904 to confirm your phone number.
REC provides electric service to over 158,000 connections in parts of 22 Virginia counties. With its general office in Fredericksburg, Va., the cooperative operates and maintains more than 16,000 miles of power lines through its service area, which ranges from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
