REC Nears Completion of Restoration Effort

March 14, 2017

REC crews are nearing completion of their restoration effort from the effects of winter storm Stella. Over 5,500 members were without service at the height of the storm, and as of 4:30 p.m. 125 members remain without electricity. A small number of outages will likely remain scattered across the area well into the night. Restoration will continue until all service is restored.

"Winter Storm Stella brought snow, sleet, ice and strong winds to our service territory," said Ricky Bywaters, REC's eastern region manager. "The weather conditions caused trees to fall onto power lines breaking poles, cross-arms and also damaging equipment."

Contractors and crews from Community and Shenandoah Valley electric cooperatives are assisting REC with repairs. If you are still without power, report your outage at 1-800-552-3904 or by visiting www.myrec.coop/out.

REC provides electric service to over 161,000 connections in parts of 22 Virginia counties. With its general office in Fredericksburg, Va., the Cooperative operates and maintains more than 16,000 miles of power lines through its service area, which ranges from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
