FAQ's for Reducing Peak Demand

Why do I need to reduce my energy use?

The wholesale electricity purchased by Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) for
delivery to you is most expensive during peak-use times. Working together, we can reduce
the amount of higher priced electricity we have to purchase, keeping costs lower for
everyone.

Are we getting ready to start rolling black-outs?

No. Most times, you are called upon to reduce load to help the Cooperative save on the cost
of wholesale power.

Will my bill be lower?

Typically there are no immediate savings or refunds on your individual electric bill. This
program produces savings for REC by reducing the cost of wholesale electricity. These
savings are passed to members through Capital Credits and lower operating costs.

What will I gain by helping REC?

Conserving energy during peak-use times helps us hold down cost of providing power to
you. These savings get passed on to our members through Capital Credits and lower
operating costs.
