Arbor Day
As a Tree Line USA utility, REC recognizes the importance of protecting trees as a vital natural resource to improve the quality of life in the communities it serves. Sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters, the Tree Line USA program recognizes utilities across the United States that demonstrate the protection of trees as a vital natural resource while continuing to provide reliable service to their customers.Annually our right-of-way department partners with three area elementary schools to conduct its annual Arbor Day celebration. In doing so, it provided an important tool for educators to teach the importance of trees. Students at all three schools also had the opportunity to participate in an Arbor Day poster contest sponsored by the Cooperative.
"REC's Arbor Day celebration is a way for the Cooperative to continue its tradition of involvement in the education of local students," said Keith Forry, REC's corporate arborist. "Through the planting of trees at area schools, this program helps teachers educate their students about an important part of our environment and at the same time it allows students to have a lot of fun while learning."
The Cooperative's Arbor Day program has planted more than 75 trees or shrubs in its six year history.
