Youth Tour

students and congressman

In 1958 a rural electric cooperative in Iowa sponsored the first group of 34 young people on a weeklong study tour of the nation's capital. Today more than 1,400 young people and their chaperones participate in the Youth Tour every year.

In 2010 REC will select six high school juniors to attend the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Youth Tour of Washington, D.C., which will be held June 13 - 19. Winners will interact with students from around the United States, tour historical and cultural sights, and meet their representatives in Congress. Through this once-in-a-lifetime experience students may seize the opportunity to become concerned citizens better aware of the issues facing their communities.

To be eligible for this free trip, students must be high school juniors and complete the application form, including a 400-word essay.

The 2010 Youth Tour application deadline is 5 p.m., Monday, March 22, 2010. Download the 2010 Youth Tour Application. All applicants will be notified of their selection status by April 5, 2010.
