William ''Bill" Alphin: REC Director 1976 to 2017
Feb. 6, 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of REC Board member William "Bill" Alphin. Bill passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017.
"Bill was a great director and even better person," said Kent Farmer. "His foresight and leadership helped REC become what it is today. As the Cooperative grew and the industry changed, his focus always remained on doing what's best for our members."
Bill was elected to the Board of Directors in 1976 and helped lead the consolidation of two cooperatives who joined together to form REC. He was extremely proud of his affiliation with REC, was always a strong supporter of the REC workforce, and looked out for the best interest of the members. Bill also served on the board for the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives, filing the role of chairman multiple times. He also represented REC for 23 years on the Old Dominion Electric Cooperative board.
In 2015, Mr. Alphin was recognized by the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC) with the 2015 Electric Cooperative Leadership Award - read more here
