  • In April, through a parternship with the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, REC and other electric cooperatives celebrated National Lineworker Appreciation Day.
  • These critical workers are incredibly dedicated to their jobs. It’s a brotherhood, and they take great pride in working to support REC’s member-owners by doing the work necessary to provide reliable power to homes and businesses. They are also focused on bringing broadband to rural communities.
  • Interested in becoming a lineworker? It’s an incredibly challenging job, and it’s not for everyone, but for those interested there are steps you can take to be successful. These include completing classroom and field work through a lineworker training school. In Virginia, one is operated through Southside Virginia Community College. From there, graduates can work as an apprentice lineman and continue working their way up the ranks.
  • And at REC and other electric cooperatives, veteran lineworkers are able to move into other careers such as distribution design and data analytics.
