We recorded today’s episode via Zoom with Casey Hollins, Director of Communications and Public Relations for Rappahannock Electric Cooperative to learn about VA 811.

Virginia 811 (VA811) is the not-for-profit organization created by Virginia’s utilities to protect their underground facilities. You should ALWAYS call (or go online) before you dig. VA 811 was formerly known as “Miss Utilities.”

The process for having your property marked is quite simple and Casey walked us through it as well as gave us some insight into what the different colored markings represent, and why it’s so important to call before you do any kind of digging.

REC provides electric service to over 170,000 connections in parts of 22 Virginia counties. With its general office in Fredericksburg, VA, the Cooperative operates and maintains more than 17,000 miles of power lines through its service area, which ranges from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Follow REC on FacebookTwitterInstagram, and YouTube.
