REC Awards $20,000 in Scholarships to Local Students

Each year, REC awards $20,000 in scholarship funds to local students who are seeking to advance their career goals by attending a college or a career and technical school.


“REC’s scholarship program is one of the ways we directly empower the youth in the communities we serve,” said Brian Wolfe, Senior Public Relations Specialist. “It’s one of the best ways we can invest in our communities’ futures.”


The following students each received a $2,500 scholarship:

Camden Jones, King William County – King William High School

Sanae Stokes, Frederick County – Virginia Commonwealth University


The following students received a $1,000 scholarship:

Elizabeth Bates, Culpeper County – Eastern View High School

Bethany Bazemore, Louisa County – University of Virginia

Jona Benson, Frederick County – Sherando High School

Thomas Brennan, Spotsylvania County – Christopher Newport University

Alexis Dennis, Frederick County – Virginia Tech

Cayden Fix, Greene County – William Monroe High School

Karen Fleur, Spotsylvania County – Virginia Commonwealth University

Kaitlyn Foster, Louisa County – Louisa County High School

Emily Jenkins, Rappahannock County – Rappahannock County High School

Maisen Jenkins, Spotsylvania County – Trinity Episcopal School

Hunter Legge, Frederick County – Sherando High School

Sutton Marks, Hanover County – Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School

Julia McKenzie, Clarke County – Homeschool

Andrew Rose, Louisa County – Southside Community College

Evan Williams, Hanover County – Hanover Center for Trades & Tech


“The scholarship from REC positions me to continue to expand on my community service experiences at college and explain how civic engagement strengthens the community and benefits my personal well-being,” said Sanae Stokes.


Applications for the 2024 Community Scholarship are now open. To apply for each scholarship, the applicant’s parent or guardian must be a member-owner of REC, and the applicant must be planning to enroll in an accredited educational or training institution.
