REC Leaders Meet With Legislators
Friday | February 22, 2019

REC leaders joined more than 150 of their peers from across Virginia to advocate for cooperative member-owners at the 2019 Legislative Day in Richmond. The activities were coordinated by the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives.

The annual event is an opportunity for electric cooperative leaders to visit with state delegates and senators to discuss legislation related to their industry. This year, REC focused on two main issues: reducing regulatory costs, and modifying the net metering rules to allow member-owners equitable access to roof-top solar.

“It’s always important to remain engaged with those who make laws that affect us every day,” said Matt Faulconer, manager of external affairs. “In today’s world of extreme political views, member-owned co-ops can often bridge the gap, as we did with net metering. Taking time to listen to all of the concerns and to find a consensus-based solution demonstrates REC’s commitment to serving our members. By being involved early in the legislative process, we can more efficiently serve all of our members.”

The following REC board members attended this year Eugene L. Campbell Jr., Darlene H. Carpenter, William C. Frazier, Linda R. Gray, , Sanford Reaves Jr., Christopher G. Shipe, Jesse R. “Randy” Thomas, and J. Mark Woods. They were joined by the following REC executives: Kent D. Farmer, president and CEO; John D. Hewa, vice president of corporate services; and David F. Koogler, vice president of member services and external affairs.
