REC Monitoring Alert from PJM Multi-state Grid Operator
Sunday | January 25, 2026

During periods of extreme temperatures, the demand for electricity peaks. While REC’s local grid is performing as it should, the transmission grid operator PJM has issued a warning of the potential need to reduce electric load to maintain the integrity of the wider electric grid.

As a result, there is the possibility that transmission grid outages will impact service to the following areas: Frederick County, Clarke County, Warren County, Rappahannock County, Culpeper County, Page County, and Fauquier County.

At this time, we want to emphasize that this is a warning. However, out of an abundance of caution, we are issuing this notice so that you can make plans to keep your family safe in the event a transmission-level power interruption is directed by PJM. If this occurs, outage restoration times will be unknown until further notice is provided by PJM and the local transmission provider. Restoration is likely to occur in phases to prevent damage to the grid. This means power will not be restored at the same time for all impacted members.

REC continues to monitor the situation and will provide any future updates.
