REC Promotes Work Zone Safety Awareness
Wednesday | April 16, 2025

In recognition of National Work Zone Awareness Week (April 21-25), REC wants to remind drivers to stay alert and cautious in work zones.

This year's theme -- "Respect the Zone, so We All Get Home," Emphasizes that safe driving choices protect everyone: utility crews, construction workers, first responders, and fellow motorists.

“While the national campaign is observed for one week, the reality is that you see work zones year-round, and that includes REC’s lineworkers and vegetation management teams doing essential work," said Casey Hollins, Managing Director — Communications and Public Relations at REC.

"If you’re driving and see crews or emergency vehicles on the shoulder, please move over if it’s safe. If you can’t, slow down. It’s not just common sense, it’s the law. This simple steps create a safer environment for everyone on the road.”

How You Can Keep Workers Safe

  • Reduce speed and follow posted signage.
  • Stay off your phone and avoid other distractions.
  • Be alert for workers and moving equipment.
  • Merge early when lanes are reduced -- and be patient.
