REC Responds to Outages after Ice Storm
Wednesday | February 13, 2019

REC crews and contractors worked through the day Tuesday to restore outages after an ice storm impacted the Cooperative's Western Region.

As of 10 a.m., about 1,100 outages remained, with nearly 90 separate incidents reported. During the peak of the storm, nearly 2,500 members had lost power.

Most of the remaining outages are concentrated in the mountainous region of Warren County. Due to unsafe conditions, crews responded only to emergency situations overnight. This morning, crews from REC's Blue Ridge and Culpeper offices redeployed with assistance from crews in the Cooperative's Eastern Region.

REC hopes to restore all service by the end of the day. High winds are forecasted along the ridge tops, which could hamper restoration efforts.

Safety is always a top priority for our employees and member-owners. Downed power lines and trees touching the lines are extremely dangerous. If you see a downed line, report it by contacting REC 800-552-3904 or by calling 911, and be sure to keep others away from the line.

REC provides electric service to over 169,000 connections in parts of 22 Virginia counties. With its general office in Fredericksburg, Va., the Cooperative operates and maintains more than 17,000 miles of power lines through its service area, which ranges from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
