REC Restores More than 99% of Power Outages

REC crews, contractors and mutual-aid workers continue to make the final repairs necessary to restore about 700 outages related to Winter Storm Frida.

As of 10 a.m., crews had restored more than 99% of the original 98,000-plus outages that occurred on Jan. 3.

About 170 individual outage events remain. Many require multiple pole replacements to restore power to an average of four members at a time. As of this morning, crews had discovered more than 620 broken poles and had replaced around 450.

REC continues to update crew locations and estimated restoration times on its website, myrec.coop.

Outages with crew en route or on site:

  • Estimated restoration: Today, Tuesday, January 11. Some outages could continue into tomorrow.

Outages with a crew currently assigned:

  • Estimated restoration: Today, Tuesday, January 11. In areas with severe damage, some outages could continue into Wednesday, January 12.

Outages that are currently unassigned:

  • Due to the extent of damage in your area, we estimate that power will be restored by Wednesday, January 12. In situations where there is severe damage, some outages could continue into Thursday, January 13.

“More than 1,200 field employees, including mutual-assistance from 13 other states, continue to make steady progress,” said Casey Hollins, Managing Director – Communications and Public Relations. “Crews will not stop until every outage is restored.”
