Rappahannock Electric Cooperative's (REC) Youth Tour gives high school juniors an opportunity to learn leadership skills, hang out with peers from across the United States and Virginia - and have fun while doing it. Plans for 2023 Youth Tour have been made and the event will once again be held in Washington, D.C.! 2023.
Participants of the 2023 Youth Tour will get a fun and jam-packed trip to Washington D.C. where they will learn about the electric cooperative industry, meet with local legislators, tour the United States Capitol, and have some fun attending a Washington Nationals baseball game, a play at the Kennedy Center and much more. Carter Rees, a Madison County High School student, made lifetime memories on last year's Youth Tour trip. "I had a great time on REC's Youth Tour," Rees said. "It really was an experience of a lifetime. I learned so much in such a short period of time and also had a blast. I’m grateful to REC for this opportunity.”
This year's trip will run from Monday, June 19, through Friday, June 23. The schedule is packed with educational and fun activities and participants will interact with students from across Virginia, Maryland and Delaware and the United States.

How Youth Tour Started: Youth Tour was inspired by Sen. Lyndon Baines Johnson when he addressed the NRECA Annual Meeting in 1957. The senator and future president declared, "If one thing goes out of this meeting, it will be sending youngsters to the national capital where they can actually see what the flag stands for and represents."
