Rappahannock Electric Cooperative's (REC) Youth Tour gives high school juniors an opportunity to learn leadership skills, hang out with peers from across the United States and Virginia - and have fun while doing it.

Participants of the 2024 Youth Tour had a fun and jam-packed trip to Washington D.C. where they learned about the electric cooperative industry, met with local legislators, toured the United States Capitol, met with Senator Mark Warner, and had fun attending a Washington Nationals baseball game, and much more.

“Youth Tour provided us a unique way to experience our nation’s capital, allowing us to see democracy in action,” said Jackson Hunley, rising senior at Massaponax High School in Spotsylvania. “Getting to connect with and see all of the students from across the country travel to D.C. was inspiring and makes me confident in seeing the strong, robust next generation of leaders.

The application period for 2025 Youth Tour is now closed.

How Youth Tour Started: Youth Tour was inspired by Sen. Lyndon Baines Johnson when he addressed the NRECA Annual Meeting in 1957. The senator and future president declared, "If one thing goes out of this meeting, it will be sending youngsters to the national capital where they can actually see what the flag stands for and represents."
